Doug goes to California without us

Doug spent the weekend in California for his niece's wedding.  While I was glad that he got to go, I sure was jealous!!  Especially after he remembered that he can get 4 complimentary passes to Disneyland every year.

Friday afternoon he had lunch with an old high school friend and her cute girls (and a dolphin swam right by!!).  Later that night he met up with Adamo and they went to a Dodger's game, complete with amazing weather and fun fireworks.

Saturday was more amazing weather and Paige's and Matt's wedding.  Doug even caught a great picture of his folks getting all romantic during their dance.

Sunday (again, more amazing weather) found Doug and Adamo at Disneyland.  They met up with the Campbells to give them the other 2 free passes, and then headed out for some more fun in the parks.

Monday he hung out at the Shepley's home, walked the mall near their place, did some quick shopping at the Huntington Beach pier, stopped for a  bite to eat, and then finally returned home to us!

Lighthouse Cup Tournament

This weekend, Fusion played in the Norpoint Lighthouse Cup Tournament in Tacoma.  I didn't even know this part of Tacoma exists ~ it's beautiful.  And so was our weather!!
Fusion lost the first game on Friday night.  But they didn't give up and played a tough game.

Today was a different story ~ they won both games, and will go into tomorrow's finals in 3rd place!  Super exciting, ladies!!!

Aunt Lisa was happy to see Laurel play soccer.  And Dana loved being with some of her favorite people (Kayla and her family).

Lisa came to visit!

Lisa recently moved (with Julie's family) from Kentucky to Maryland...guess they wanted to try and get farther away from us.  But she has come for a visit!  Today Doug brought her and the kids (and Audrey-lou) to visit me at work.  Aubrey has started asking to see a new piece of art each time she comes...so today we explored the 6th floor "diving board" to see what art was up there.  I think we decided that the couches were works of art.

The kids demanded (and were granted) an audience with Big D.

After the visit, we walked across to the Seattle Center and played in the International Fountain.  Until Dana slipped.  for the second time.  and started bleeding a little too much for my comfort level.  we were able to get her all cleaned up, but it kind of put a damper on the fun in the sun.

Looking forward to the rest of Lisa's visit!

Ohanapecosh | 2011

It's hard to believe that our annual trek to Ohanapecosh is already over...I wish I could go back again this summer.  Maybe next year we will!

This year our crew included the "regulars" - the Campbells and the Stuards.  The Hoevelers returned this year, and we welcomed the Bakers for the first time.  That's 12 kids ~ all of whom seemed to have a great time, and we loved the sites we picked out.  Before we left there was talk about how to arrange families for next year in order to optimize the space for running, playing in water, and preventing "looky-loos" from passing through our sites.

Thursday

we followed the Stu-Crew and their fancy new trailer

Friday

we couldn't believe how much snow there was around Lake Tipsoo ~ last year there was a little, but this year there was a lot!

The Dillon 6

Aubrey has really proven to be good with younger kids lately ~ it's hard to believe she'll be old enough to babysit in just a couple more years...

He sure stood up there for a long time.  He even swam across the river to the other side to try.  But today was not the day to jump off a rock into a glacier-ly coooold river

Saturday

the Stuards (minus a very pregnant momma) on the Silver Falls hike

Fred joined us for the hike..he was everywhere this week...but I hear he's pretty excited for Audrey to come home....

after lunch we ran into the NICKELs!!  They had driven to Ohanapecosh for a day hike.  It was so fun to see them so unexpectedly!

Dana and Preston take a photo break (or a rest)

After much encouragement (and, I'll admit ~ exasperation), Malcolm finally jumped into that icey river (with Fred in a backpack)

And then Aubrey jumped with Fred

which, along with the encouragement of two very nice Australian men and their gal-pal, gave Laurel the motivation she needed to jump into that icey river, too!

We didn't get the chance to say THANK YOU after the jump...he treaded water for a good 2 minutes while Laurel finally decided to jump. I  can't believe he didn't get hypothermia!!

And then to warm everyone up after the river fun, Malcolm built us a ginormous fire!

Sunday

just before loading into the Green Giant to head home

woefully glancing behind...hoping for just one more camping trip before the summer ends....
